¯ ¯ ¯ Announcement ¯ ¯ ¯
Ecoterm 5 will be hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations on 05-06 October 2009. The program will focus on the federation of environmental terminology resources. The discussion will also focus on the role that GEMET, the European Environment Agency’s GEneral Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus and other broad-based national and international resources might play in such a federated system. The program will also provide updates on activities that resulted from previous meetings, presentations on key projects, and progress on the development of standards and tools that support the interchange of environmental terminologies and their use in the Semantic Web. A significant amount of time will be allocated for outlining the requirements and plans for prototyping a federation of terminology resources of interested Ecoterm members.
We expect 25-30 environmental terminology developers, information managers, data managers, and information technologists to attend this meeting.
The Ecoterm Group is a working group of the ECOinformatics Initiative (http://www.eea.europa.eu/cooperations/eco-informatics) . The group was formed in April 2004 by parties interested in working together on environmental terminologies, their integration, and their use with semantic web technologies.
Please feel free to forward this announcement to colleagues who might be interested.
